Parco Nazionale Monti Sibillini
A Casket of Nature, Traditions, and Legends
A mountain chain rising in the heart of Italy and reaching Mt.Vettore (2,476m). A territory where the magic of local nature, history, and culture have contributed in defining a unique and unrepeatable reality. Here, in the kingdom of the mythic Sibilla, the Parco Nazionale Monti Sibillini was established in 1993 (with over 70,000 ha), with the aim to safeguard the environment, promote a social and economic sustainable development, and favour the creation of a "Park suitable to everyone". The wolf, the golden eagle, the peregrine, and a number of endemic species are the most evident elements of a biological richness which, along with the charm of the abbeys and of the Medieval historical centers lying in a crown at the foot of the mountains, have shaped an old and suggestive world where time has stopped to honour a reality of extraordinary beauty.
Itineraries
The hiking paths cross these mountains like a web and allow the discovery of the natural and the historical-cultural environment, from spring to autumn. During the winter, when the highest peaks are covered in snow, there is the opportunity to go skiing among woods and valleys wrapped by an absolute silence. Horseback riding, mountain biking, hang gliding or paragliding, rock and glacier climbing are other entertainment opportunities that the "Case del Parco" offer to visitors. It is also possible to carry out interesting historical and naturalistic guided tours at the discovery of the essence of this rare and precious territory.
Itineraries by Mountain-bike
Exploring the Park by mountain-bike gives the opportunity to catch emotions where the noise of the vehicles would cover the singing of birds and the gurgling of the streams, and the motors would cover the smell of the hay, of the broom, and of the helychrisum. It gives the opportunity to travel along streets and paths originally used by farmers, woodmen, shepherds, and pilgrims.
Trekking and Hiking in the Park
The Park's territory offers several and various opportunities to those people who want to discover its treasures in the four seasons on foot. The historical itineraries lead us to the medieval corners of the villages scattered at the foot of the Sibillini, while pleasant walks reveal us the mosaic of the rural and shepherds' life. The contact with wild nature and the magic world of the summits can be reached through more demanding hikes often requiring experience, training, and suitable equipment. These itineraries will soon be signaled by the Park; however, at the moment it is possible to rely on the experience of the Park's Official Guides, who will reveal us the most concealed secrets of the Sibillini in the safest manner.
Finally, an unforgettable experience will be walking along the paths of the Grande Anello dei Sibillini(Italian text), a 120 Km-long excursion itinerary which has been signalled for all its length. It takes 9 days of walk, and it involves the whole mountain chain.
